Richard and Jim,
Thanks for your input but the problem has resolved itsself. This morning OE
was working fine on my account without me making any changes since my last
post.I still dont understand why it happened in the first place or how it
became 'fixed' but as long as it keeps working ok I will just leave it at
that.

Jim, yes I have checked that.Did you read my reply to Richard? As I saidYou might try setting up a new identity first. A corrupted identity can cause all sorts of weird
there, these settings should be universal but it is still just my account
where there is a problem.I have been through all the accounts checking the
settings but they are all the same.At the moment the only possible solution
that comes to mind is setting up a new account that I can use and deleting
the existing one.Not very enthusiatic about this of course.

Mike: Have you looked at the Connection tab on OEs menu, Tools/Options to
make sure that there is nothing checked on that page? Sorry to hear your
ISP doesn't work on the weekend. Also check in IEs menu that nothing is
calling for a dialup connection. (Tools/Internet Options/Connection tab and
make sure that 'Never dial a connection' is set. Good luck.

Not OZ. NZ actually.Yes to reboot, no to contacting ISP.Their tech support
doesnt work on Sundays.I was hoping someone here would have an insight as
it
appears to me to be a problem specific to this machine.XP SP2 by the way.

Have you contacted the ISP or reviewed the info concerning the update at
their website? Most updates of that nature require a reboot following
the
intstallation of the upgrade. Have you rebooted? As to why other users
are
not having the same problem, maybe your ISP will have an answer for that
also. Maybe it's because you're on the bottom of the world in Oz <G>.

My ISP has just upgraded the speed on broadband connections and as a
result
my pci modem wasnt working properly.I now have an external router using
an
ethernet connection and is set up so that as soon as a user logs on
then
you
are on line.No dial-up.This works fine for IE but when I open OE the
dial-up
connection window appears wanting to connect via dial-up even though I
am
already on line.To further complicate things I just found out that this
is
only happening on my account(admin). The other users are not having this
problem and OE is working fine on their accounts.Any thoughts anyone?

problems.
The new identity can use the existing account.
