Re: Troubleshooting Transfer Mail/Address Book to New Computer

Copy all of the WAB files from your CD to a folder on your Desktop. Then open that folder, right click all the WAB files and make sure the "Read-Only" attribute set when a file is copied to a CD is cleared. Then double click each wab file in turn until you find the one with the contacts you are looking for. Then open your existing Address Book (Start/Run/All Programs/Accessories/Address Book) and use the Address Book menu to import from the older WAB file. Should work.

Thanks Jim, with your help I'm halfway there. I ended up sending all of the
email folders to My Documents f irst and importing from there. Couldn't make
it work the other way. But this ended up working fine. I now have all my
email.

I'm still struggling with getting the addressbook. I did a search on .wab
on the new computer and ended up with a listing of 4 files and wasn't sure
what was what. I exported to a comma delimited text file from the old
computer to a CD and tried to import from that CD to the new computer. I get
an import error. Msg doesn't give me any more information than that so I'm
not sure what the problem is. I'll try again to import from the files I
found when I did the .wab search on the new computer. Maybe one of them will
work. Otherwise, I'm at a loss. I'll let you know what I come up with.

Thanks

Try importing the messages from the "other" message store folder
(File/Import/Messages, selecting OE6 and From a Message Store, pointing to
the "other" store folder) and see if that works. The long string of numbers
relates to a different Identity on your old computer and the new computer is
most likely using the default "Main Identity" with a different GUID (the
correct name for the long string of letters/numbers).
