Re: Outlook express and blank emails problems

Anyone have any thoughts as to why only some of the emails I receive are
blank? I would say probably 1 in 20, or so? And why I can never see the
content of emails from one person at a company
(name.surname@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx) but can always see that from
name2.surname2@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx?? I have several email addresses that all
end up at the same place, but it doesn't seem to matter which one the blank
messages are sent to (so it's presumably a problem with the default
identity?). It's very bizarre. I've tried some of the proposed fixes
detailed here, but I'm not hugely techie, and don't want to start messing
things about too much, if possible.

I can't say if it is the fix, but as I previously stated, you do not have to.
remove SP2 to Reinstall IE6/OE6 if SP2 was on your machine from the factory.
See this to repair or reinstall IE6/OE6:
http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=318378
Although written for WinXP, it works for all Windows operating systems 98 or
newer.
If you are using WinXP/SP2, and it was not already on your computer from the
factory, you will have to remove SP2 first.

Already tried all those. Unfortunately this is a new XP install with a
streamlined SP2 install, so uninstalling SP2 isn't possible (it's not
in add/remove and the $NTServicePackUninstall dir doesn't exist). I
did try reinstalling SP2 and that didn't help. I tried all the other
things below as well. It's exactly what's happening in KB312351, if I
change the "Read" to text only. If I switch Read back to html, it
doesn't show attachments but wont show the text. I wish there was a
way to reinstall OE6 even though i'm on a streamlined SP2 XP.

And from:

Besides the problem described in this article with temporary files,
Outlook
Express may have a blank message if Internet Explorer is set at View,
Encoding to Auto-Select. If so, disable the Auto-Select in Internet
Explorer
and choose instead Western European (ISO). If your program has an option
to
read HTML messages in Plain Text, the HTML version of the message may
appear
as an ATT0001.HTM attachment (the number may vary).

Go to: Start>Run>Type in, or copy & paste: regsvr32 inetcomm.dll -
Press:
Enter. {Note the space after 32}.
If the problem reoccurs, download CWShredder and run it after doing the
fix
again.

Two other possibilities. In OE: Tools | Options | Read | Fonts. Choose:
Western European (ISO).

I just got a new laptop and have been using OE6 forever.
My new PC has a problem with OE6. It downloads all headers OK but when
I try to view any emails, they're always blank, and have attachments
like ATTXXXXXX.htm and ATXXXXXX.txt. I tried a regsvr32 inetcomm.dll
and that didn't help. I tried deleting my temporary internet files in
IE, and that didn't help. I have view/encoding set to Western European
(ISO). I have "Read all messages in plain text" not checked in OE6. I
checked for and removed any spyware I had. I even uninstalled my
antivirus software temporarily. I also followed
http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=312351. If I double click an e-mail
to open it, and hold the mouse over where the text should show, I just
get a pointer/hourglass combo. If I try to send an e-mail, I can't
click in the body text area to type anything.
If I log out of my PC and log back in as "Administrator" it works fine.
I AM, however a local administrator on my PC (and a domain admin for
that matter).
Nothing is working. Is there anything else I can try to resolve this?
