Try the extract from disk feature of DBXpress, if the extract from files
doesn't get the messages.
Each time you compact, there will be a set of bak files. So when you
restore, you want to restore the bak file that has the messages in it. To
do so, its best to create a new folder in OE and access it once. Then
close OE, delete the new dbx file that was created for that folder, and
then restore the bak file corresponding to the folder you wish to restore,
and then rename it to give it the filename of the dbx file you deleted.
Then open OE and see if the messages from that folder are in the backup.
You say It keeps happening, but what keeps happening?
If you keep having corruption then see point 3 here:
www.oehelp.com/OETips.aspx and also you should probably create a new
Identity.

I, too, have multiple BAK files, and I am still working on recovering
emails. I do understand how to do the recycle bin method, altho I have
had no luck at all with the $25 DBxpress thing.
QUESTION: when I use the recycle bin method to recover these emails, do
I want to do it one set of BAK files at a time or do I let them all be
'sucked in' to the folders? Or does one set overwrite another set
already in there?
QUESTION: since this keeps happening, what is the diagnosis? I will
probl. have to hire someone to do whatever the cure is, being
notthathightech myself.

As long as you are certain after a compacting operation that all of your
mail and newsgroup folders can be opened and the messages are intact,
there is no reason to keep the BAK files. I would however, first make
sure that everything is A-OK will all the folders before doing any
deleting. Good luck and thanks for the feedback.

I don't think that's right Frank. Just looked in my Recycle Bin and
there
are 3 "sets" of BAK files for each folder and newsgroup, each with a
different date.

great, it's become a regular habit.. I don't even think about it
anymore......
Thanks again for all of your help...
Sandy
BTW, It won't keep multiplying the number of files in the Recycled
Bin. a
new Compact will overwrite the old files.
