Hi,
I'm a new user of Outlook Express and have OE6 and IE7 installed.
The links in messages received in OE6 do NOT work. Either nothing
happens on clicking OR a window showing the file contents of the
Outlook Express subfolder appears.
I have seen that this is a common problem in this group and I have gone
through all of the recommendation in
http://www.fjsmjs.com/OE/nolinks.htm and some others, too.
Amazingly, I still cannot get rid of this problem.
Here are some details on what happened when I tried these remedies:
1. Changing the Application path in Windows Explorer>Tools>Folder
Options>File Types for URL/HTTP from FireFox to IExplorer made no
difference to the links in OE6. It did, however, prevent certain web
pages opening through FireFox (my default browser).
Am I to understand that OE6 links will only function if IE is the
default browser?
2. Tried to register a (recommended) group of 6 .dll files. All
registered sucessfully apart from mshtml.dll where an error message was
received stating that the registry server entry point was not found and
the file could not be registered.
3. Following the instructions for Expansion of the file oleaut32.dll
did not provide the 'file has been successfully extracted' message.
Indeed, no message was received.
4. This link (recommended for WinXP users) provided only HTML
information from which I could make no deductions wrt solving my OE
links problem.http://www.mvps.org/sramesh2k/reg/IE_Default_Browser.reg
5. Attempts to install patch qb331923 gave a message stating that IE6
SP1 must be installed before installation of this patch (I have IE7
Beta installed).
I hope somebody can help me resolve this difficulty.
TIA
Paul
