It seems there is no straightforward fix to the problem this security
patch
caused.
In the light of all this information I will try & decide what the best
action for me to take will be! It does seem odd that a MS security patch
can
be released causing another problem that is not fully rectified by them
later.Still, perhaps it is not that easy?

Sorry to hear that - but do keep an eye on this group and
general/basic/newusers, where these updates have been discussed, thats
if/when you have managed to get back into the newsgroups.
If it is resolved, the solution is bound to be posted.
