For info about backup/restore for Outlook Express settings and info, the best link is this one:

Good luck.

Hi Jim. Thanks f or responding. I run PCillin by Trend, NOT Norton or Mcafee.
I agree with your assessment of them, terrible.
As per my email, I have already removed the update, to no avail. I also
rebooted. Leave it to MSFT NOT to have a restore fo windows 2000, which I
find to be a very stable system, with this exception. If I can't RESTORE, how
do I grab the bdx files so that I can back them up and use them in a newly
downloaded o/e? Will that also save my "tree"? If not, how do I do that?
Many thanks, and don't let the Easter bunny eat all your jelly beans!

Windows 2000 has no "System Restore" function so all that I can suggest is
using Control Panel/Add Remove Programs and uninstalling the update. Then,
reboot the computer, totally disable your Norton antivirus and stop it from
starting up on rebooting, and try downloading and reinstalling the update.
If that doesn't help, we'll have to wait and see if Microsoft offers any
added info since none of these problems came up while testing this
particular patch. Sorry.
FWIW, I would not have Norton or McAffee antivirus products on any computer
on which I depend on Outlook Express to store mail since both programs are
too intrusive and "touch" stored messages in inappropriate ways that can
lead to loss of stored messages. There are other products available, some
of which are even free, that do not intrude as much while still providing
antivirus protection.
