Re: Address Book/Message Store missing

Thanks to Kath and PA Bear for getting me to see my problem. Kath made me
think how I was importing. Her File>import instruction showed me I had no
understanding of the process. Then I looked at the other replies, and PA
Bear had many links off the insideoe site. One titled, "Importing OE Data
(all DBX files, including Folders.dbx)" showed me the answer.
Thanks for all that took time to read and reply.

Kath, that's the key! Please, I'm not too bright so tell me where do I click.
on File>import> messages/address book and point to the place where I want
them copied to my hard drive? Windows Explorer? My C: drive? Short of
drawing me a picture, please explain. All insideoe has is a header "Restore"
with information, but not this information. I guess the site expects one to
know this.

As well as what all the others have said, and reading the steps you have
done, nowehere do you mention having used the import function for the
address book and mail folders?
File>import> messages/address book and point to the place where you
copied them to your hard drive.

maybe it's the way I'm importing or not importing.
I inserted the cd into my 2nd computer. I opened internet explorer
and expanded the D: Drive to see "My Outlook Express Identity"
folder. Just clicked on it and dragged to C: Drive. It copied to my
hard drive. Inside are three sub-folders, Address Book, Message
Store and Registry Keys. I open each of them and use "select all" to
highlight the files. Then I right-click and then select properties
from the pop-up window. On the Properties window, I remove the check
for "read only" and click "apply". I do this to each in turn. Then,
I delete the four registry keys using regedit, then I open up my
"registry keys" folder and double-click each key in the folder.
Have I imported OE, or is there something else I'm not doing? I
figure I've missed a step or misunderstand the restore/import action,
because I tried the procedure a second time with the same results.
No messages, no address book. But the registry keys that I deleted
get restored/imported.

You cannot import from a CD since all files on a CD are marked as
Read-Only. Copy the files to a folder you create on your hard drive,
select all the files, and clear the Read-Only attribute, then try
the import.
Or go back to Tom's site, and print out the instructions and follow
them exactly, crossing off each step from the printed list as you
complete them. --

performed clone OE off the Inside OE site. Moved to another
computer, attempted to restore. Deleted the four registry keys as
instructed, opened
OE, and no address book, no messages. Did I restore incorrectly?
How would
you restore? This was burned to cd. I put the cd in my computer
where I wanted to restore this info to. Different than the
computer I made the clone
of. I then changed the read-only check box to unchecked for all
files. Deleted the four reg keys and then double-clicked the
imported reg keys. But
no joy.:(
Should I try from the beginning and see if the second try works?
