Re: Blank Messages when typing (Solved)

Tech-Archive recommends: Repair Windows Errors & Optimize Windows Performance

I wanted to thank everyone for their suggestions and time helping me. I
ended up wiping out the hard drive and re-installing Windows. All is working
now. Please look for a new post about adding a shortcut to my Desktop..

Make sure you aren't set to "read messages in plain text only" under Tools |
Options | Read and then see if you can read the body.

If not, then I still think its spyware, or spyware broke something that
needs to be fixed.

You can try going to Start | Program access and defaults and then set IE and
OE default and see if that fixes anything.

Also try going to Start | Run and type:

regsvr32 mshtml.dll
regsvr32 msthmled.dll
regsvr32 urlmon.dll
regsvr32 inetcomm.dll

That will re-register some of the programs that are involved with the
compose and rendering HTML window and might fix it.

Yes. I checked it with 2 Spyware softwares. Why do you think that I am
able to read my emails as HTML attachments but when I go to View->Message
in
HTML, the body of the message greys out and I cant read anything! All
my
IE security settings are set to Low.

The fonts have been keeping the setting fine. I have tried the website
and
every other step suggested to me. The new identity poses the same
problem.

A new discovery is, if I change the Tools->Options->Read and put a
check
into "Read all messages in Plain Text" , when I read a message I can
now
see
the Attachment view. The body of the message still remains greyed out.
I
added *.hotmail.com and *.passport.net to Trusted Sites and disabled
all
pop-up blockers. Is there some HTML security setting blocking the body
of
the
email that could be turned on?

Keep in mind too I cant type anything into a New Message. The body is
all
greyed out. Only To and Subject work. Please continue to help.

Fonts can get corrupted.

But you mention having to change the font setting each time you start
OE. Is it getting changed to something else?

It could be that you have a corrupted identity, in particular some of
the registry settings for that identity.. Create a new one and import
your old mail and see if that works better.

I have tried all these suggestions with no luck. The only thing
working for
me is OPtions->Read->Fonts and changing it to Western European
Windows. It
will work until OE is closed. Are there certain fonts I need for
OE
to work
properly? Can fonts get corrupt?

Although it says it is for OE5, it can also apply to OE6.

I tried your suggestions with no luck. I am not able to put my
cursor
into
the body of the message. The entire body is greyed out. I can
still
put my
cursor into subject and message and type there ok. This goes for
reading
messages too.

When I change the font WEstern European ISO and uncheck "Use
default
encoding for incoming messages", everything decides to work
again
until I
close OE. My settings stay the same but I go back to the same
problem
until
I undo the above settings. Its annoying to change these settings
back
and
forth, back and forth.

If you do a Ctrl-A (select All), to highlight the text, does it
become
visible? If so, that suggests that it's a font color issue
(e.g.
white
on white).

I received WinXP SP2 laptop from Europe and I am able to type
up
words
into
the To: field but not into the body of the message. Further,
all
incoming
messages are blank except the Subject and To: field.

I tried the website with the .dll and changing the fonts to
Western
European
ISO and it works only temporarily.
