Re: Images in O.E. have Red X in a small box

Just to clarify a bit what Bruce responded, in XP SP2, they added a feature under Tools | Options | Security to block images linked to websites in email. The reason for this is that spammers were embedding 1 pixel images in messages and that allowed them to track if an email was opened or not. Then, by having a number tied to that image and associated with the email they sent you, then if that image was accessed, that told them the email address was valid, and so they could put it on their verified email list for spammers that they sell.

So by blocking external content such as images linked to websites, MS killed the ability to track in this dastardly fashion. <G>

If the email is from someone you know, you can go to Tools | Options | Security and uncheck the block image box to allow for the image to be then accessed and displayed. Or hit reply, and then the image will be displayed.

This all assumes that you don't have OE set to read all messages in plain text, but then you wouldn't see the redX at all.

cheers,

steve

Thanks for your rerply,
I have read all below and the www.oehelp indicated that pspimage where indicated.
Changed them as the artical referenced and, still, have to click on the second bar that
says "some images have been blocked to help prevent the sender from identifinf your computer".

There must be a work around.

Do you have the bar above the message that says, "Some pictures have been blocked................."? Are you reading in Plain Text? Tools | Options | Read. Uncheck that option. If this doesn't solve it:

There are a few possibilities. Some are on the sender's end, and some may be on your end.
