I would not try to replicate this behavior by going back to an earlier version either. I was only trying to find out if I was possibly the one with a problem.

I've never had OE check mail on opening. My memory could be off, but if I
was not doing anything the send/receive screen would appear when mail was
checked. I could be wrong because it was a casual observation and not
critical to me. Regardless, I would not try to replicate this behavior by
going back to an earlier version.

That's interesting. I can't remember ever seeing that box when opening OE.
Only a manual Send / Receive. And this holds true regardless if I had only
one  address, or identity, or many.

The same thing happened to me several weeks ago, but I did not record the
date of the occurrence.

I believe it would be best not to try to return to an earlier version to
regain past behavior. It's not a good trade-off (feature vs. updates). It
would probably be only a (short) matter of time until another update
changed
the behavior back again.
