just wondering thanks

Google's *emulation* of POP3 sucks. Considering the dearth of any fixes over the last year, I doubt they ever addressed the problem noted at http://www.gmailforums.com/index.php?showtopic=8066. So how LONG has Gmail been in BETA now? Because of Gmail's inability to fix their POP3 bugs, I can't use it. As noted, if you ONLY use one e-mail client to poll for messages and you ALWAYS download the messages then their POP3 host works okay (i.e., you won't hit their bugs).

Gmail demands that you use SSL when connecting to their POP3 host. Not all e-mail clients or proxies, especially anti-spam proxies, support SSL so you get stuck with having to add something like sTunnel to add SSL support which makes the e-mail setup more unreliable (more stuff to break).

Have you ever checked how crappy is their rule set? It is so poor, doesn't provide for testing on negative conditions, and is so limited that I found their rules to be worthless.

Spam filtering has been very good but then I don't use my Gmail accounts as my primary accounts to know how often there are false positives. Google is very rude in that they enforce spam filtering to always on. You cannot turn off their spam filtering. So if you notice lots of false positives and would prefer to use your own client-side spam solution, you're screwed. The ISP should *never* dictate what is spam without the user's consent.

It's good. It's bad. Depends on how you want to use it.
