Could be a damaged identity. I have not used a "Main Identity" in MS
Outlook Express for a couple of years, now. When I first set up MSOE, I
create a spanking new Identity, then switch to it. After that, I delete the
"Main Identity". Never use it, just delete it.
What you might try is to create a new Identity, then test it. If it works,
import all of the messages from the old Identity. Once you have all of your
old messages in the new Identity, just delete the old Identity.
Look for posts by Bruce Hagen on the problems of keeping messages in the
five MSOE created folders: Inbox.dbx, Outbox.dbx, Sent Items.dbx, Deleted
Items.dbx, and Drafts.dbx. It is best to move messages to folders you have
created for that purpose as soon as possible.
Also, if you are using Windows XP, there are some tricks pertaining to the
auto compacting of folders introduced with that OS. I don't have a Windows
XP OS, so I am only peripherally aware that there is a problem; I don't
know the solution for that, but it has been posted several times in the
past; probably within the retention window of msnew.microsoft.com.
