The first question; messy. You can have multiple email accounts in a single
Identity. Each email account would be configured with its own email address
in the "From:" field. But all incoming email, if it is from POP3 accounts,
goes to the on Inbox.
With multiple Profiles, you can get some unexpected problems by letting
users share a common MSOE Identity; such as User A deleting User B's email
before User B gets to see it.
I have multiple, mixed POP3 and IMAP accounts in a single Identity.
Multiple POP3 accounts all go to the Inbox under Local Folders. Each IMAP
account has its own folder tree.
IMAP messages are stored on the server, not locally. The folder tree in the
local client is a mirror of the server folder tree. If a message is marked
for deletion, but unmarked before the deletion is performed, the message
will not be deleted. OTOH, once an IMAP message has been deleted from the
IMAP server, there is no way to retrieve that message from the local
client.
That can be problematic, in the case of somebody trying to download a
message. If the user does not move a message from the IMAP folder tree to a
local folder, deleting the message from the IMAP server also deletes it
from the local folder tree; remember, the local IMAP folders are a mirror
of what is on the server.
