Re: E-mails not showing up

Assuming your new ISP gave you all the correct settings, there are many other things to check, or do.

1: View | Current View. Make sure Show All Messages is checked.

2: Tools | Accounts | Mail | Properties | Advanced. Make sure Leave a copy of messages on the server is not checked.

3: Do you have a lot of mail in OE default folders, especially the Inbox? Not good.

Do not archive mail in default OE folders. They will eventually become corrupted. Create your own user defined folders for storing mail and move your mail to them. Empty Deleted Items folder regularly. Keep user created folders under 100MB, and Default folders as empty as is feasible.

After you are done, follow up by compacting your folders manually while working *offline* and do it often.

Click on Outlook Express at the top of the folder tree so no
folders are open. Then: File>Work Offline (or double click Working Online in the Status Bar). File>Folder>Compact all folders. Don't touch anything until the compacting is completed.

In Tools>Options>Maintenance: Uncheck Compact messages in background and leave it unchecked. {N/A if running XP/SP2}.

4: Disable e-mail scanning in your Norton A/V program. See:
http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPORT/nav.nsf/pfdocs/2001082921552806?Open

You are still protected:

Better yet, get rid of Norton all together.

I'd like to recommend AVG Free:
http://free.grisoft.com/doc/2/lng/us/tpl/v5
or:
http://www.grisoft.com/doc/40/lng/ww

When prompted, choose Custom Installation and *uncheck* e-mail scanning when you see the option.

Norton (and McAfee) products are not Outlook Express friendly, and I don't
know of any OE-MVP that would recommend using them.

5: It could also be your anti-spy program, so see if disabling that makes a difference.

This should keep you busy for awhile.

I have Outlook 6 and when opening my mail reader it will state that 10 new
e-mails have been downloaded, but when opened only a few are there. A few of
my friends have sent me stuff but I haven't gotten them. They have not gotten
a return notice of non-deliverable. I did just switch to a new provider so I
can have DSL, so I am not sure if this is a problem. I use PC Doctor for
anti-spy and Norton's for my virus protection. Any ideas? Thanks, Mike
