Re: OLD PC TO NEW PC

Tech-Archive recommends: Fix windows errors by optimizing your registry

Well, copying files like that should be no problem at all... The reason that
installed "Programs" are not easy to copy is simply the fact that when
installed a lot of changes have to be made in the system registry, and
without these changes most programs will not work. As long as you have the
original CDs or else the original "Archive" or "Installer" files if they
were downloaded programs you should be okay.

Your new PC will come with a network card, your old PC may have one. If so,
you either need to borrow a switch, a router or get a crossover cable to
connect them together and you can just drag and drop stuff. If the old
machine has a CD burner you could use CDs, if not then direct connect is
about the only option apart from floppy and that will take forever. I guess
you could put the old drive in the new machine and do it that way if you
don't mind taking the case off... a lot depends on how you feel about doing
this to be honest.

First question then I guess is does the old PC have a network card and do
you have a router - if not you must be using dial up right?

I intend to purchase a new PC (3.2GHZ PROCESSOR) with Windows XP MCE 2005
installed. Will appreciate if I could get some advice per the best method
to transfer all the existing files from the C-DRIVE of old PC (Pentium 2) to
the new PC. All the 2.5G of files are mostly MS WORD DOC & FILES SAVED
FROM INTERNET, none are recorded TV PROGRAMS. TIA.
