"I like my left pane open ..."

The OP *never* said that they changed from the default layout in OE. Okay, so that "left pane" is the tree list or folder pane. Besides the mail store folders, it shows a hierarchical tree listing of server nodes (which can be ANY NAME you want since it is editable) with nodes under it for the newsgroup titles.

"... and therefore the divider line between it and the
other area ..."

That would be the pane border between the tree list and the other two panes on the right for the message header list and preview pane.

"... is cut in half (almost) once this NG name and other stuff is
displayed ..."

Because the user choose to drag the right-side of the tree pane to the right which squashes the message header and preview panes.

Yeah, like the OP's post was really that hard to figure out. Rather than widening the tree pane, just hover the mouse over any node in the tree whose title string extends beyond the right-side border of that pane (which makes it look truncated).

"I would like to 'rename' the NG to shorten its length, can you do that???

No, the newsgroup titles cannot be renamed in OE to shorten the width of the string used for each node in the tree. Also, there is no abbreviation feature as in Thunderbird that will truncate the newsgroup title so only the first character within each section of the name is used, as in changing microsoft.public.outlook to m.p.outlook, but then the mouse hover event handles showing the longer name using a popover window. If the user has not disabled the Folder Bar in the layout, the currently selected newsgroup's title is shown in the folder bar which displays just under the toolbars and is as wide as the entire window size for OE.

Take your own advice: reread the post and think this time. Then do it again and maybe even again.

Oh, goody, a self-professed professional poster that thinks a 20-line signature isn't rude. Sure dwarfs your one-line reply.
