Re: OE6 won't open with router and Norton

If that works, then I'd recommend you do so. But Norton in its newer versions is really a handful of problems. There are free and low cost virus checkers that do a good job without being as intrusive. I've long recommended the free version of AVG from www.grisoft.com but as with all things, it's a matter of choice. Good luck and thanks for the feedback.

Jim:

Thanks for the advice.
What works best for me is to leave the Windows Firewall on and disable
Norton Firewall when I want to go to OE6. I'm probably OK by just leaving the
Norton off and will do that.

Your best option is to reboot with NIS set not to start on startup. Do the
same if you are using a 3rd party firewall. Then open OE and test it. If
all works well, add your programs back, one at a time, until you identity
the problem program. Then you can decide whether to uninstall the rogue
program or live with the problem. FWIW, Norton is generally regarded as one
of the most intrusive and troublesome programs available today. Google for
NIS+problems and see how many problems you find. You will not be alone (I
find 1,870,000 of them).
