OE suddenly will not connect to mail servers! PLEASE HELP!!!

I use OE as my mail client on my primary PC at home, and a few days ago
it stopped being able to connect to the mail servers. But at the same
time, I could surf just fine on the same PC. So I did the following:

1) Rebooted a few times... this did not solve the problem.
2) I reinstalled OE... this did not solve the problem.
3) I set up a new mail account in Outlook (I usually just use OE), but
once again, it also could not find the mail servers.
4) Just moments later, using a different pc on my same home network, I
created a new mail account with the same server connection information.
It worked perfectly!!!

So at that point, I realized that it was not a general connectivity
issue and it was specific to that individual PC. So then I tried:

5) Turning off my firewall and AV software just in case they were
interfereing... this did not solve the problem.
6) I totally bypassed the router and connected the PC directly to the
cable modem. Same promlem... I could surf just fine, by Outlook & OE
could not find the mail servers!
7) I verified that OE was using the same connection as IE.
8) Verified that the LAN setting in OE had not changed.
9) Prepared to smash my PC out of frustration!!!

So now I am at my wits end and I am totally out of ideas. I would TRULY
appreciate any assistance anyone could lend. Thanks!!!
