Re: Folders are gone

Tech Tip: Click here to run a free scan for Windows Errors and optimize PC performance

Hate to say it, but system restore will do zip. What you needed to have done is backup your message store folder on a regular basis, either to CD or to another partition on your hard drive. For some added info on how any why it happens, review the info in this article:

Well, thanks Jim. I opened in Wordpad and all I saw was a row of
squares. So I guess they are all gone. Now that I lost everything, it
seems like I should have known to do a backup. Oh well, live and learn.
System restore under XP home wouldn't save my bacon would it?

You don't know. Some programs (antivirus programs doing email scanning) can
cause your DBX files to be overwritten with all zeroes, foiling any attempt
to recover mail messages from them. Have you done a file search for all
files ending with DBX? Are there any with a number appended (indicating
corruption in a version of that folder)? The file size is one clue; i.e.,
if greater than 200 or so KB, there may be some info stored in it. Take the
file with 23911 KB and attempt to open it in Wordpad but do not attempt to
edit or change anything in it or you will corrupt it further) and see if you
can find any fragments of messages, email addresses, etc. in the file and
then close Wordpad without saving or editing anything in the file. If you
find message fragments, they can probably be recovered using DBXpress which
is not free but works very well. See the info at this link for more about
DBXpress:
