Re: how to remove and reinstall OE 6

Tech-Archive recommends: Repair Windows Errors & Optimize Windows Performance

Other tips from my arsenal:

1. IE Tools > Internet Options > Privacy > Sites > type in

   hotmail.com

and Allow Cookies.

2. Make certain your time, date, and /time zone/ settings are correct.

3. Troubleshooting Secure Sites in WinXP SP2
(Hotmail and .NET Passport should be treated as Secure Sites)
http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=870700

4. Temporarily disable your firewall, any "system" tools (NSW, NIS, anything by Norton or McAfee) and pop-up/ad blockers to see if they're interfering.

5. How do you connect? Is the machine on a network? Related URLs (MTU values):

   http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=250663
   http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=315008

6. IE Tools>Internet Options>Advanced>HTTP 1.1>toggle on/off; "Use HTTP 1.1 through proxy connections" must *not* be checked.

7. IE Tools>Internet Options>Security>[zone in OE runs; should be Restricted Sites]>Custom Level>User Authentication>Logon>toggle between the setting choices here ['Prompt for Username and Password' and 'Automatic...current Username...' works for me.]

8. Resetting either or both of the above Tabs to the defaults might help, too.

9. If you're running a version of MSN Messenger earlier than v7.5, try upgrading to this latest version (WinXP only).

PA Bear,

Thanks for the response. The issue is niggling. I can readily access my
hotmail accoutns from OE on another machine and also from the same machine
using the Guest acct. However i cannot access it using a new identity from
the same account. The search issue was repaired (along with an unnoted
toolbar search issue) by reinstalling the xml parser. The OE issue was not
addressed thru this search repair. Ive scanned the machine several times
with adaware, spybot, norton av and msft antispyware also to no avail.
Whateve the case, I know believe as you noted, that the issue will probably
no be corrected by a reinstall of OE.

Next ideas?

shapeshifter.

Uninstalling/Reinstalling OE won't help with your Hotmail problem,

Your first post in the above thread actually hints at your problems being
caused by hijackware:

<QP>
It seems at the same time the 'search' function of the OS no longer works
either and Im wondering if something Ive installed has created a problem.
</QP>

Are you able to access the Hotmail account in OE on another machine? Are
you able to access the account in a new identity on the problem machine?

When all else fails, HijackThis v1.99.1
(http://aumha.net/downloads/hijackthis.zip) is the preferred tool to use.
It will help you to both identify and remove any hijackware/spyware.
