Pictures, insert vs. attach!

Normally when I send pictures in an email, I send them as attachments and it
works fine, but recently I decided to try "inserting" pictures so that I
could take advantage of the "Alternate Text" as a caption and it seemed to
work okay too, but when my friend received the email, all that he got was
the Place-Holders with a red 'X', no pictures! He is using "Outlook" and I
asked him if he had his settings correct (to receive 'html' mail) and he
does. I cc'd a copy of the email to myself just to make sure that it worked
and the pictures were there in my copy. I did notice that the email went
though pretty fast though, much faster than if I had sent attachments, so
this made me a little suspicious. Do I need to attach and insert? This
sounds kind of silly?? What am I doing wrong?
Thanks all!
