Re: Edited, saved, attachments not accessible

One was 2K SP4, the other was XP SP2. Both IE6/OE6. Firewalled, antivirus,
MS Antispyware all up to date, MS Critical updates autodownloaded and
autoinstalled.

Users do not change the file extension.

Let me explain how users do this...
Get OE email with Office document attachment
Open attachment (do not save it first)
Edit the document
Save the document (it's read only so 'save as' is needed), but the default
folder that is displayed is the TIF folder, not My Documents. User does not
see that and just saves there anyway. <This is the root cause of the problem>
Open the editing app later on, access the document through the recently used
list at the bottom of File on the menu, make more changes to the document,
and just use save to store the changes.
Try to access the document later when the recently used list has been
over-written, or to attach to an email, etc. File not in My Documents or on
Desktop. No trace of it. Panic! Do Explorer search. File not found. Call
IT Administrator and cry.
