Re: Attachment Setting *

I feel remiss, as I was on the beta and didn't catch this. I just never use that feature. First thing I always do is turn it off.

Anyway, I made MS aware of it and maybe they'll fix it sometime.

Thanks Steve for confirming it for me also. Was just bugging me if it was my setup or something with OE. I work around with it and it does not bother me since I do not ever open an attachment

I never use that option, but I just tested it in Server SP1 (which is my
usual Desktop OS) and sure enough the attachment blocking does not seem to
work. I can toggle it on and it does not function, so I can confirm it to
be a problem in Server 2003 SP1.

I'll forward this info upstream, but I expect it will just land in a black
hole.

OK. Full clean format then install of W2K3. *NO* SP1. Set up OE again.
Attachments are blocked. Activated. Attachments are blocked. Installed SP1.
Attachments are *NOT* blocked.

One more try tomorrow. W2K3 slipstreamed with SP1 this tome. and let me see
this.Always installed SP1 as stand alone before.

I find this very very weird. I don't have a clue what could be causing it.

Ok Steve. I just installed earlier today the W2K3 on a clean machine that
has been formatted. I did not activate right away since there is 30 days
to
do so. I installed SP1. Nothing else on machine. Set up the OE Newsreader
with all newsgroups that I participate in . Set all in Tools\Options
\Security. Went to a newsgroup not on a msnews server where there is a
lot
of attachments. Attachments are blocked in OE. Perfect. I then activated
the OS (had a hard time to understand the Indian English :o) ). As soon
as
I got Activated on this new system without even having made 1 single post
(OE was Raw) the attachments were unblocked with all settings still in
place.

Now I am going to try this by reformatting this extra machine and
repeating
the same steps with the exception of SP1. Will report tomorrow on outcome.

BTW. I set up a new Identity on the other machine and there is no change
as
far as attachment. Still showing with all settings in Security Tab in
place

Again this is not an issue for me but rather a challenge for knowledge

It is much easier to test by setting up a new Identity than it is to
change
the MBs around.

How do you know the registry is not corrupt without testing?

Ron

I do not know if it will replicate . I will try on one of the other
servers
tonight by installing this MOBO that I suspect caused this change on this
system. I hope to replicate it and if not I will try another approach.
Identity is not damaged and everything else on this newsreader is
perfect.

OE here is only used as a newsreader and nothing else. No Folders except
for
the default ones and they are all empty.

I have 42 newsgroups set up and that is it. My mail client is OL\
Exchange
and OS is W2K3 SP1 and SBS. The groups do not have more that 100 posts in
any of them since I clean and delete read ones every night. Compacting is
also scheduled once every 3 days on the newsgroups. I am clean here.

Peter,
If you are having a settings problem in an Identity, then creating a new
Identity is something to try.
I don't understand your exact issue.
If you replicated it on another machine, then describe the issue in more
detail to see if the issue can be replicated by other people.

To whom did you post this too. Seems that it is for another post
according
to what is below. Besides this has nothing to do with an Identity issue
which BTW I have already tried on another machine where I replicated
this
issue
with the exact same steps
