Re: Attachment Setting *

Create a new Identity.
If that works, setup your subscribed newsgroups.
In OE, View, Layout, check Folder List.
Look at the Folder List to find out which newsgroups go with each server.
Open a create message window.
Make a list of names using the directions for below.
Save the message as an eml file.
Clicking on each link will start that newsgroup.
You could also create the list in Word.

Unfortunately the subscribed newsgroups do not import or export. Having a
list of newsgroup links would be one way to maintain a backup. These could
be created manually by pasting information obtained in a newsgroups
properties into Notepad, keeping the name of the newsgroup and combining it
with the server part of a link. Not easy, but not as onerous as it might
seem.

For this server

news://msnews.microsoft.com/

Information from this group's properties

C:\Documents and Settings\Tim K\Local Settings\Application
Data\Identities\{long number}\Microsoft\Outlook
Express\microsoft.public.windows.inetexplorer.ie6_outlookexpress.dbx

Name of the group combined with the server to make a news link

news://msnews.microsoft.com/microsoft.public.windows.inetexplorer.ie6_outlookexpress

Short link that can be used after the groups list is downloaded

news:microsoft.public.windows.inetexplorer.ie6_outlookexpress

The links can be used in the Start, Run box or IE address box -- to mention
two ways.

Just a query.

OE is 6.0.3790.1830 (srv03_sp1_rtm) and is used strictly only as a
newsreader. When in Tools\Options\Security all is checked as far as not
allowing attachments any post that has an attachment is not blocked. Now
this does not bother me since I do not touch any but I am just curious as to
why the settings do not seem to hold. This was not the case before I
re-activated this server due to a MOBO Upgrade. But since the Activation
these settings as I mentioned above do not hold and do not implement. Again
it does not bother me but I would like to find a solution so as I would also
like to know for the future.
