DBX files in the message store folder open natively in Outlook Express and there is no file association required in Tools/Folder Options of Explorer to create it. If you Autodesk installed, it does not alter those files that are in the store folder from opening correctly in Outlook Express, and it will not alter the file association created by AutoCad for them. In short, there is no problem using either program as long as you do not alter the file association created by the respective programs (and OE does not need a file association created for it).

There is a folder in Windows 98, C:\Windows\Application Data\[long random number]\Microsoft\,Outlook Express. The Outlook Express folder apparently contains the data of all the OE files past and present, such as Drafts, Sent, Inbox, and various newsgroups I've subscribed to such as this one (I use OE for newsgroups only). I counted about forty files in this folder. With the exception of one file, <microsoft.pub>, all files in this folder end with the designation <dbx>. Thus the file for this newsgroup is <microsoft.public.windows.inetexplorer.ie6_outlookexpress.dbx>.
dbx (database extension) is an Autodesk file type that allows transmission,
viewing and modification of AutoCad .dwg files in other related drawings
programs. As you might expect, AutoCad is installed on this machine. This
can't possibly be the correct extension for those files. How do I fix this?
