smtpauth.earthlink.net answers on port 587:
| 220-smtpauth09.mail.atl.earthlink.net ESMTP Exim 4.34 #1 Wed, 03 Aug 2005 03:31:19 -0400
| 220-NO UCE. EarthLink does not authorize the use of its computers or network
| 220 equipment to accept, transmit, or distribute unsolicited e-mail.
| QUIT
| 221 smtpauth09.mail.atl.earthlink.net closing connection
Suggest that you not tell people to switch away from port 587 without first
checking that it isn't correct. With many ISPs beginning to block outbound
port 25 for SMTP message submission, more ISPs, and e-mail service
providers will be setting up message submission servers on port 587.
