First, I did try a Telnet to pop.earthlink.net, and got the following
response:
| +OK NGPopper vEL_6_8 at earthlink.net ready <9211.1123054784@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx>
| QUIT
| +OK
So there has to be something else up. Have you tried Telnet to some other
ISP's port 110? It is not a bad thing for a simple test, and it will help
to determine if the problem is local, or remote. Try to Telnet to
pop.mail.yahoo.com, just to see if you get a response, or a connection
timeout.
