Re: Compacting Folders

Tech Tip: Click here to run a free scan for Windows Errors and optimize PC performance

Steve, I looked for .dbt files, but as you guessed, didn't find any. I did finally figure out how to disable e-mail scanning (I have AVG Free); couldn't figure it out before.

And Jim, fortunately I didn't have many files in the Sent Mail, just a few I couldn't decide where to put them so left them there!

Thanks to you both.

Also look for .dbt files, but I expect you won't find any. See www.oehelp.com/OETips.aspx#4 and also do point 3 in the future.

Thanks for the reply, Jim. I didn't turn the computer off while it was compacting. It was finished compacting and then I went to open another program and that's when I saw it was locked up and had to turn it off.

I looked where you said, and I only have Sent Items.dbx, not Sent Items (1).dbx. <sigh>

See if the info at this link helps understand what may have happened.

Shutting down a computer while compacting is ongoing is almost a certain guarantee that you will lose some of your stored messages. When you compact, walk away and get a cup of coffee and leave the computer completely alone until the compacting operation finishes. You might look in your message store folder (OE menu, Tools/Options/Maintenance and Store Folder will show you where it is) and look and see if you have both a Sent Items.dbx and once titled Sent Items(1).dbx. Post back if that's the case as there may be some hope.

When I exited O.E. it asked me if I wanted to Compact Folders and I said OK. When it was finished I couldn't open other programs (computer locked up) so I had to reboot. When I opened O.E. again, the Sent Mail folder was empty! Everything else seemed OK. Is there anywhere I can find the content? I didn't have a lot in there, as I try to keep them moved to the appropriate folders, but there were still some that I wanted to look at and move.
