However, when adding a few files together there doesn't seem to be any
pattern - sometimes the numbers are in some sort of order...in reverse
order - but not always...seems quite random?

Ref the File/Save tip transferring files one at a time...thought that might
be the answer...but no, I get the numbers in sequence but still in reverse
order.
