As for your e-mail being split between both mail programs,
Mail gets downloaded into whatever mail program you run. When using a POP3 mail server,
by default all messages are deleted from the server after downloading, leaving nothing for
another mail program to get.
You need to do any ONE of the following:
- Stop running Outlook Express
- Run OE in a news-only mode (which is what the "Outlook newsreader function does)
Command Line Options for Outlook Express

- Remove the mail account in OE (Tools, Accounts, Mail)
- Tell OE not to download mail (Tools, Accounts, Mail, Properties, General - uncheck the
include this account in send and receive)
- Tell OE to leave messages on the server (Tools, Accounts, Mail, Properties, Advanced)
