See the info at this site while signed in to www.comcast.net which explains how to enable authentication by double clicking the mail account created on your computer for comcast. You must have a mail account created for Comcast to use Comcast's SMTP server and you must be authenticated.

I am running windows 2000 with outlook express 6. Those other replies have nothing to do with me, that was someone else reply their own question. The error that comes up is :
The message could not be sent because the server rejected the sender's e-mail address. The sender's e-mail address was 'doubleimage22@xxxxxxxxxxx'. Subject 'ciao', Account: 'Giuseppe', Server: 'smtp.comcast.net', Protocol: SMTP, Server Response: '530 Authentication required', Port: 25, Secure(SSL): No, Server Error: 530, Error Number: 0x800CCC78
How do I fix this?

Do you get an error message? Post it in it's entirety. We can't *guess* at what the problem is. More info is needed.

"bagger" <bagger@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx> wrote in message news:FE7942B8-A35C-430C-816F-9BFC3DD9DD1C@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxThanks for the suggestion, I tried this KB, but the "values" were already set
OK for OE6. I did find in the Add/Remove program for Microsoft Internet
Explorer 6 SP1 and Internet Tools dialog box radio button "Add a component"
which checking the box for Outlook Express recovered OE6. So I'm back to the
original fault. I'm not to computer savy.

Windows ME is a problem, but if you want to try uninstalling/reinstalling,
see this KB article which though written for XP, works in all operating
systems except Windows 95:
