Re: How do I set browser used to open links within OE messages/posts??

Glad you found a fix. Sounds like a problem with the file association for HTML files not being properly set on first install.

Thanks for the feedback.

Thanks for the quick response.
Unfortunately, the microsoft links seem quite specific to using IE as the
browser, and hard to generalize to another browser.
I did try the suggestion on the Frank Saunders page.
It was hard to tell exactly what path it was using (it was in the format
MSDOS uses for long directory names, <C:\PROGA~1\MOZILL~2 ....>.
So (after creating a restoration point :-) I browsed to the correct Firefox.
This didn't correct the problem -- Firefox would still come up when clicking
on links within the browser, or on HTML files on my drive, but still nothing
happened when I clicked on links in OE. So I restored to the point I saved.

After uninstalling and installing Firefox again, I stumbled across a setting
in a place I hadn't expected (can't remember now what clued me to). For the
benefit of other seekers: Tools>Options>General, Default Browser, and it
turned out that during the install Firefox had become no longer the default
browser. I did the obvious, and problem solved ....

..... though why it still was default to open HTML files is a puzzle. I
guess that's different from 'default browser'.

See if this link helps fix it:

You cannot open a new Internet Explorer window or nothing occurs after you
click a link:

OLEXP: "Send To" and E-mail Links Do Not Work w. Outlook Express:

Also might want to see this information from Frank Saunders, MVP-Outlook
Express:

From http://www.fjsmjs.com/OE/nolinks.htm

Open Windows Explorer.
Go to Tools | Folder Options | File Types.
Scroll down to URL:HyperText Transfer Protocol and select it.
Click Edit or Advanced, depending on your Windows version.
Select 'open'.
Click Edit.

"Application used to perform this action" should read:

"C:\PROGRAM FILES\INTERNET EXPLORER\iexplore.exe" -nohome
(Check the path to iexplore.exe to make sure that is correct and use the
double quotes.)

DDE should be checked and in the boxes below it you should have:

#1:
"%1",,-1,0,,,,
#2
IExplore
#3 (blank)

#4
WWW_OpenURL

URL:HyperText Transfer Protocol with Privacy should be the same.
