XP/SP2 has an automatic compacting that takes place when you've opened/closed Outlook Express 100 times. If you interupt the compacting you will lose messages that have been stored. On the offchance that you may still have them available, search for files ending with the extension of either DBX (in your message store folder) or DBT (files created when a compacting takes place). There are tools available that can extract messages from those files at www.oehelp.com
