Hi Linda,
The most common culprit is anti-virus message scan. The use of this feature
can cause connection issues. It is safe to disable the message scan feature
while maintaining the system scan of your A/V. Sometimes it is necessary to
re-enter your password to re-establish the connection to the mail server.
This can be true even if A/V message scan is not the cause.
This Microsoft KB article covers a broader range of possibilities:

and Outlook Express

I am receiving:
The connection to the server has failed. Account: 'myname', Server:
'pop-server.nyc.rr.com', Protocol: POP3, Port: 110, Secure(SSL): No, Socket
Error: 10061, Error Number: 0x800CCC0E on all 5 of my POP 3 accounts during
same send/receive session.
My ISP says there is no problem and I can receive email via my web based
access. I already tried someone's suggestion from this bulletin board to go
to tools/accounts/properties/advanced and to remove the check box from
"leave
a copy of the message on the server". It was already unchecked so that
wasn't the problem causing this.
Thanks for your help!
