The error is stating that you already have 837009 (or a successive OE cumulative patch) installed, despite what the Windows Update V4 scanning engine is telling you.
...I have renamed the Windows update folder...
Why?
What version of msoe.dll is listed in OE Help > About > Files, please?
Is 'Outlook Express - Q837009' listed in Add/Remove Programs? Is there a similar entry (e.g., Outlook Express - Q123456) and if so, what is it?

Reinstalled IE 6 and OE 6 ftom files on my hard drive. Now when I go to Windows Update it says I need "KB837009 Service Pack 1 for Outlook Express 6". I have done this several times and still get the same update message. I manually downloaded the patch and tried to install it and a message came up saying that I needed Service pack 1 for Outlook Express in order to install this. I thought that this was service pack 1. I have renamed the Windows update folder and a new one has been created. My version of OE is: 6.00.2800.1123. Other than that annoying problem, everything is working OK.
TIA
