Once you hit the send button, the send process is initiated. About all that
you can do is pull the plug; either the cable to the Internet, or the cable
to the electricity. Neither is graceful, each is prone to cause other
problems.

PA Bear suggests working offline. This will work as long as your connection
manager is not set to initiate an Internet connection when needed.
Otherwise, as soon as you hit send, your connection manager is informed
that an Internet connection is needed, and the connection process begins.

Another solution would be Tools > Options > Send, and uncheck the box
labeled "Send messages immediately". With immediate send disabled, MSOE
puts the sent message into the Outbox, and leaves it there until either you
initiate the send manually (Send/Receive button, send all; or one of the
other options), or you close MSOE (in which case you get a warning about
unsent messages in the Outbox, and can choose to send, or not, at that
point).

Actually, for people who regularly have second thoughts about messages, or
itchy trigger fingers, disabling immediate send might be the best solution.
