With a reply can the address be deleted and then typed in and the reply sent
successfully?

A most concise and thorough suggestion--thank you, I will work it in with
the the other advice and hopefully all will be well.
I had already backed up the message store folder just in case since the user
has an elaborate folder scheme with messages stored from over a year and I
was concerned about losing the data, but it had not occured to me that the
various folders could be the cause since the problem seems to occur only
with replies and not to new sends.
I was absolutely certain it was the fault of the senders header until I send
10 identical emails from my own accounts--but here's the most annoyiing
thing....the problem is inconsistant
Probably 60 percent of the time it works, but 40 percent of the time it does
not.
