Why would anybody want to remove security updates? Is seeing email from the
Preview Pane so important that you would risk viral infection to be able to
do so? Where are your priorities?

Have you considered that there may be security options which you don't know
about? I wonder if the security updates changed the MSOE default View option
to disable the Preview Pane? View > Layout; is there a check in the box
labeled, "Show preview pane"? Be sure to do this from a defined account, or
the Local Folders; it doesn't work from the top of the folder tree. It may
also be blocked by the system administrator, if you are using somebody
else's computer. While this is considered by many to be a security issue, it
won't be found in the security menu.
