Sandra,
Don't feel like the lone stranger. My 2-yr old Dell laptop doesn't have a
problem with the screen flickering, but the erratic cursor movement you
describe is similar to mine. I have a new Logitech Laser mouse, but had the
problem with the old MS cordless optical mouse. I've noticed that the
cursor jumps from where I'm typing, to a position where the PC knows the
mouse to be. For example, if I begin typing and physically move the mouse,
some time later - seconds or minutes - the cursor jumps to the new mouse
position. I've noticed it apparently happens when I drag my the edge of my
hand across the 'touch pad' below the keyboard. It's as though the touch
pad is overly sensitive, and positions the cursor to the new location - like
it SHOULD do if you moved the cursor and then tapped the touch pad. When I
get a little time, I plan to ask Dell about it. In the meantime, I've found
that by keeping my fingers arched and avoiding making contact with the touch
pad, the problem occurs much less frequently. And for whatever reason, it
seems to be more of a problem in O/E than Word, etc. One other little quirk
is that (infrequently) when I mis-touch the touch pad and another key, the
message gets sent before I'm finished composing it - like what should happen
when you key the Alt+S combination. After the 3rd time that happened, the
results of my frustration is what caused me to replace the MS mouse.
Let me know if this correlates to your situation.

:I don't know if this is the right list to ask this question, but this
: problem happens only when I am reading this list.
:
: The page will flicker, like it's blinking, like I clicked the Refresh F5
: button, about once every couple seconds.
:
: Also, when I am typing in Outlook Express, the cursor will suddenly jump
: several lines back, or ahead. I even have a problem _finding_ the cursor
: many times, and the scrolling bar along the side goes up and down
: erratically whenever it wants and I cannot control the page. I do not know
: if these symptoms are all connected, if they are a hardware problem,
: (although this notebook is only two months old, or Microsoft software, or
: just an outlook express setting, but the 'scrollbar jumping and cursor
: disappearing ' occurs on all windows.
:
: But I've only noticed the 'blinking' when reading this list.
:
: I would much appreciate if anyone would know what causes this ?
:
: Thank you in advance,
