The Links/Search/Msjava.dll problems described in this thread and in the
thread entitled E-mail Links (1/23/05) also reflect my experiences with XP,
OE6, and IE.
I have tried the all remedies mentioned in the threads. No virus or spyware
has ever been detected on my computer. A week ago, the 'Search' on the Start
button ceased to work, although the f3 key appeared to function normally. At
the same time hyperlinks stopped working in Outlook Express, and embedded
links in IE stopped working.
I did a 'system restore' to a date several weeks before the problem had
first occurred, but when I typed "regsvr32 msjava" in the Run box, the
message "Loadlibrary (msjava.dll ) failed - the specified module could not be
found" appeared. (All other filenames were "sucessful" when typed in.)
I used System File Checker (as recommended by Dell) to repair/reinstall the
damaged/missing msjava.dll file. Interestingly, File Checker found no missing
files. However, when I subsequently typed "regsvr32 msjava, I got the same
"loadlibrary (msjava.dll) - module could not be found" message. Also, I could
not find msjava whlln I searched my computer.
Dell Tech could not complete, a "repair installation" of XP. Dell said that
my computer would not accept the last essential command needed to activate
the repair due to the complication of having a wireless keyboard.
After the session with Dell, the OE links and Search have worked twice. Previously, after trying various methods recommended in the threads, the Search function + Links would sometimes return - but only temporarily.
Would appreciate any assistance you could provide.
Thank you, DJ

((((((( well, my original message is as follows:
in my mail, everytime I click on the links, nothing happens. IE doesn't pop up. what's the deal?
((((((( and it got answered with this:
If nothing happens when you click a link: Open Windows Explorer.Go to Tools | Folder Options | File Types. Scroll down to URL:HyperText Transfer Protocol and select it. Click Edit or Advanced, depending on your Windows version. Select 'open'. Click Edit.
"Application used to perform this action" should read:
"C:\PROGRAM FILES\INTERNET EXPLORER\iexplore.exe" -nohome (Check the path to iexplore.exe to make sure that is correct and use the double quotes.)
DDE should be checked and in the boxes below it you should have:
#1: "%1",,-1,0,,,, #2 IExplore #3 (blank)
#4 WWW_OpenURL
URL:HyperText Transfer Protocol with Privacy should be the same.
Sometimes it is necessary to uncheck Use DDE.
If you get a blank page:
1. Click Start, and then click Run.
2. In the Open box, type:
regsvr32 urlmon.dll
3. Click OK, and then click OK again when you receive the following message:
DllRegisterServer in urlmon.dll succeeded.
4. If that doesn't fix it, see this article:
http://www.mvps.org/inetexplorer/answers.htm#new_window
5. If you are using WinXP try this: http://www.mvps.org/sramesh2k/reg/IE_Default_Browser.reg
You can also try this:
Go to Start/run, and type SFC (msconfig for WinXP). Choose 'Extract One File From Installation Disk' ("Expand File" for WinXP). Type oleaut32.dll, not worrying about its location. Then, click Start.
Next to 'Restore From', type in or browse for the file's location, which is probably in the Win98 (i386 for WinXP) folder of your installation CD-ROM (typically D:\Win98), or in your Windows\Options\Cabs (Windows\i386 for WinXP) folder, as the case may be.
Then, next to 'Save File In', enter C:\Windows\System (C:\Windows\System32 for WinXP), and click OK. System File Checker (or msconfig) looks for the file, saves it as you requested, and then tells you that 'the file has been successfully extracted'.
You may need to reboot.

((((((( well that worked, but it didn't stick. the "Application used to
perform this action" always changes back to
"C:\PROGRA~1\INTERN~1\iexplore.exe" -nohome everytime I restart the computer.
what can I do? thanks )))))))
