Incoming Messages Disappearing

G'day to all from Australia

One of our clients is having a problem with Outlook Express 6.0. They are
running on a Windows 2000 machine with all the latest service packs.

When OE checks for new email, it is connecting correctly to the mail server,
downloads the messages and correctly terminating the session. The messages,
however, are disappearing. They cannot be found anywhere. No error message
is displayed for the session - it appears that all is working correctly, but
the messages are nowhere to be found. When then checking the mailbox via a
webmail session, all the incoming messages are still there - they have not
been deleted when OE checked.

We have thought maybe a corrupted message was preventing the rest of the
messages from coming in, and have tried moving all but one of the incoming
messages to a temp folder (via webmail), though OE still does not display the
message after supposedly retrieving it. The message is still showing in the
webmail inbox, but no message appears in OE.

We then thought maybe a corrupted dbx file in OE may be causing this. We
backed up the client's mail folders, completely removed OE from the computer,
and put on a fresh install. When then checking for new mail, we still get
the same problem - OE connects, downloads the messages, disconnects but the
email is nowhere to be found.

Any thoughts would be appreciated.
