I don't think you need to do a reinstall. Occasionally a message gets
"stuck" on the server and you can telnet to the server to remove it (see
http://pages.prodigy.net/michael_santovec/pop3telnet.htm).
Alternatively you can try removing the mail account, rebooting, and then
adding it back again. Or try setting up a new Identity and add your account
to that ID and see if that fixes the problem.
