Yahoo doesn't provide POP3/SMTP server access except at some of its
domains. I think Yahoo.co.uk still provides access but it appears they
check your IP address when you attempt to create an account to see if
you are within that domain's region and will abort the account signup
process if you are not in their region (that's what happened when I
tried to open an account at Yahoo.co.uk with me being in the USA). If
you don't have a Yahoo domain that still have POP3/SMTP access (for
free), use YahooPOPs to give you POP3-like access to your freebie Yahoo
account, or pay Yahoo to get their premium service that adds POP3/SMTP
service.

Gmail's POP3 server is still screwed up. If you yank the FULL e-mail
message into your e-mail client then GMail's POP3 access works okay (but
still is not fully POP3 compliant per RFC standards). If, however, you
configure your e-mail client to only download headers or you use an
e-mail monitoring utility, like PopTray or Magic Mail Monitor (both have
rules which make them handy for eliminating spam at the server), then
e-mails you saw in one mail poll will disappear in the next mail poll.
See http://www.gmailforums.com/index.php?showtopic=8066. If you only
use an e-mail client which is configured to download the FULL message
then you won't have a problem using Gmail. But be aware that your
e-mail client will need to support SSL to connect to Gmail as they only
permit SSL-authenticated logins. Outlook [Express] supports SSL but not
all e-mail clients (but you can use sTunnel to give you SSL connects).
