All,
Recently, I used the Format, Background, Sound to specify a 253 KB WAV file
that I wanted to play in the background of my e-mail. After I sent the
e-mail, I went into the Sent Items folder, and tried to listen to it. As
soon as the message opened, about the first eighth of a second of the WAV
played, but then it got cut off. It should have gone on for about 30
seconds.
Intrigued, I decided to do a File, Save As, and stuck a copy of the e-mail
on my desktop as an EML file. I then minimized all applications, and
double-clicked on the newly saved e-mail. The sound played flawlessly.
What causes this odd behavior? How do I persuade OE6 to play the embedded
WAV file without having to re-save the file as an EML file? By the way, my
DBX files are pretty massive, about 339 megabytes in all. It occurs to me
that when one opens a message in the Sent Items folder, one is really
accessing a file called SentItems.dbx, which is 170 MB all by itself. By
contrast, when the e-mail is stored as a free-standing EML file, it is
small, only about 253 KB. Could it be that the SentItems.dbx file is either
too large or has become corrupted somehow?
By the way, I haven't heard back from the message recipient as to whether
she was able to play the sound when viewing my e-mail.
