I had trouble with outgoing mail with Outlook Express and AVG 7 free
too. Configuring AVG to NOT scan either incoming or outgoing email did
nothing to prevent the problem. I used hardcopies of sceen captures as a
reference to set the Outlook Express account settings. BCCs to another
account were never received.
For reasons I am not able to determine my Outlook Express setting to log
onto the outgoing mail sever using secure password authentication kept
disappearing. I could enable SMTP using SPA, attempt to send an email
and return to the account settings to see SMTP using SPA disabled.
I activated the logging functions of Outlook Express, which indicated
success tranmitting the messages. The log contents mentioned AVG and
implied that AVG was acting as a sort of proxy "server" betwen Outlook
Express and the ISP's SMTP server. After unistalling AVG I was able to
successfully send mail with the same Outlook Espress account settings.
Following is one of the simmulated mail messages from my local inbox. I
don't beleive these messages ever came from the ISP's POP3 server or
were received over the internet. I beleive these messages were generated
localy by the AVG software and transfered to Outlook Express as an
incoming mail message (mail address edited):
