Try changing the setting for the newsgroup involved to "Don't Synchronize"
then try the F5 key. Of course, if there are no newer messages, the F5 key
will show nothing, but if there are new ones, they will appear. I use it
often to make sure the post I'm replying to does not already have an answer,
although with the lag involved in posts appearing, that's not always going
to ensure that I don't answer questions that others have already responded
to. And those users, like Frank, who download the messages, then go offline
to prepare replies, then upload them at the next connection, will screw that
technique up fast. <vbg> It's why I prepare a reply, upload it, then hours
later, see that Frank has answered minutes after the post appeared but his
reply does not show up until hours later since he made it offline where it's
marked with the time he prepared it, not the time he uploaded it.
