Not strange. That's normal. msnews newsgroups is a fairly static list.

On other servers you could see your symptom if a server's policy
is that the newsgroup you are "subscribing" to is not to be archived
and enforced by deleting the entire cache. Then the updated list
of newsgroups will show that your subscribed one is not available
until more messages from that newsgroup are picked up and the
cycle repeats.

If you are not interested in sampling new newsgroups try unchecking
Notify me if there are any new newsgroups (Alt-T,O,N)
With luck that will stop OE from deleting your subscriptions
but I think you might still get an error message if you try to open
such a newsgroup and try to refresh it.

Check with your server operator. Perhaps if they know what you
are reading they could change their policies for you.

If necessary you could take an NNTP packet trace to confirm
these ideas and really find out what is happening. Some of the
NNTP requests that we are discussing are not traced by the OE
troubleshooting log for News unfortunately.

Good luck
