IMO, the best way to stop spam is as follows:

For under $10 a year, you can get a domain name,
like MyDomain.com. Then you can give out a different
email address to everyone, like --
to your parents: dfschraderParents@MyDomain.com
to your wife: dfschraderMyBabe@MyDomain.com
to Amazon.com: dfschraderAmazon@MyDomain.com
etc.

If one of these email addresses start attracting spam,
put it in your "To/CC -- Delete From Server" rule and
tell the person to change the address slightly, such as
dfschraderParents1@MyDomain.com.

Or an even better approach (but more work) would be
to create a rule for each person saying that if the To/CC
has (for example) "dfschraderAmazon" but the From
does not have "Amazon", then delete it. That way even
if someone hijacks the email address, spam won't get
through (including those phoney Citi Visa "Verify your
credit card number" scams).
