First, is your CapsLock key stuck? Posting in all caps makes a message hard
to read and is considered the equivalent of shouting.
The problem you post suggests that you have email scanning enabled with your
Norton AV program. That leads to timeout errors while downloading mail and
can cause other problems with email. Disable the email scanning and test.
You remain protected since your system scan will alert you if you attempt to
open an infected file.
Most other system "freezes" are the result of outdated display drivers for
the adapter card in use. How old is the computer and how long has it been
since you visited the card manufacturer's website to see if they offer
updated drivers for your display card? Might want to try going there.
